TRANSPLANTS

WE SUPPORT BONE MARROW, LIVER, KIDNEY AND HEART TRANSPLANTS.

The GSH Group has the framework to meet all the demands of transplant patients. In bone marrow transplants, we carry out all the planning of the procedure together with the transplant team, planning the mobilization of stem cells, performing the collection procedure (both by apheresis and directly from the bone marrow in the operating room), evaluating and monitoring the allogeneic bone marrow donor, handling and preparing the harvested product for infusion or cryopreservation, carrying out the transport of fresh or frozen marrow, performing the entire process of cryopreservation of the cells and also their thawing and infusion in the patient.

In addition, all blood components used in these patients, with their particularities, are guaranteed during the post-transplant period: irradiation and leukoreduction, and red cell phenotyping. Regarding solid organ transplants, in addition to planning and interacting with the transplant medical team, we prepare and adequately reserve the volume needed to assist the patient at the time of surgery.

BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS - BMT

A bone marrow transplant (BMT) is a medical procedure comprised of intravenous infusion of hematopoietic stem cells (from the bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord), obtained from a previously selected donor into an appropriately selected recipient (allogeneic transplantation) or infusion of stem cells previously harvested from the actual patient (autologous transplant). The purpose of the procedure is to reconstruct the sick hematopoietic organ, given its destruction, as in the case of aplasia, or due to the neoplastic cell proliferation, which occurs in leukemia cases. In addition to these diseases, others have also been the object of this treatment modality. Treatment is comprised of intense immunosuppression of the patient with high doses of chemotherapy (CT) associated or not with the use of total body irradiation (TBI) and by rescuing the hematopoietic system through the infusion of bone marrow from the donor or from the patient.

WE CURRENTLY SERVICE 15 PARTNER HOSPITALS, WHERE WE PERFORM BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS

Hemotherapy is the medical specialty that involves obtaining and administering blood as a treatment for various health conditions. The activities of this segment include blood banks, transfusion agencies, blood centers and services that work with stem cells and their ramifications (such as bone marrow transplants). Transfusion medicine has evolved from empirical blood administration to an evidence-based clinical discipline. Some factors contributed to the evolution observed in this area: the discovery of blood group antigens and the understanding of the host’s immune response to such antigens; the development of anticoagulation and blood storage methods; the creation of plastic bags that enable sterile fractionation of whole blood into its components; the evolution of automation and computing; the emergence of AIDS; the growing development of molecular genetics and biotechnology, the advent of Cell Therapy, and the emergence of Quality systems.
